Things to Do in Townsville with Kids: Family-Friendly Activities
Townsville has a strong range of family-friendly activities across its coastal and urban setting. Reef HQ Aquarium on Flinders Street East is the world's largest living coral reef aquarium and a popular destination for children, with touch pools and a predator exhibit. The Town Common Conservation Park north of the city has birdwatching, horse-riding and wildlife viewing in a natural wetland setting. Magnetic Island, reached by a 25-minute ferry, has a wildlife experience quality that appeals strongly to children, particularly the koalas visible along the Forts Walk. The Billabong Sanctuary south of the city on the Bruce Highway has a full range of Australian wildlife including crocodiles and wombats in a drive-through and walking format. Lawnton Park at The Strand has adventure playgrounds and water play areas adjacent to the beach.
